Deep Tissue vs Relaxation Massage

This is one of the most common questions guests ask before booking – and the answer depends entirely on what your body needs that day.

Relaxation Massage

Uses lighter, flowing strokes designed to calm the nervous system and ease everyday stress. It won’t dig into deep muscle knots, but it’s excellent for unwinding after a long week.

Signs you need this: You feel mentally drained more than physically sore. You want to relax, not “work out” tension.

Deep Tissue Massage

Uses slower, firmer strokes that target deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It can feel intense in areas of tightness, but it’s effective for chronic tension and muscle knots.

Signs you need this: You have specific tight spots (neck, shoulders, lower back). You feel physically stiff rather than just stressed.

Can You Combine Both?

Yes – many guests prefer a session that starts with lighter strokes to warm up the muscles, then moves into firmer pressure on specific tight areas. Just let your therapist know during the consultation.

A Quick Rule of Thumb

If you’re not sure, start with a relaxation-style massage. It’s easier to add pressure mid-session than to ease off once a deep-tissue session has begun.
